UAE passport holders can now access e-gates at Hungary airports
New initiative streamlines border control, ensuring faster entry and exit
Citizens of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can now use e-gates at all Hungarian airports, enjoying a quicker and more streamlined airport experience.
This initiative, announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, marks a significant milestone in facilitating travel for Emirati nationals.
Starting from December 12 (Thursday), the e-gate access simplifies the border control process, allowing UAE passport holders faster entry and exit at Hungary’s airports.
Strengthening UAE-Hungary relations
This development underscores the robust partnership between the UAE and Hungary, reflecting their mutual commitment to improving international collaboration. Emirati travellers already enjoy visa-free access to Hungary for up to 90 days within any 180-day period under the Schengen Agreement. The introduction of e-gate access adds to the convenience and ease of travel for UAE citizens.
The power of UAE passport
The UAE passport continues to rank as the most powerful globally on the Passport Index as of December 2024. Its holders can travel to 180 destinations worldwide, with 127 countries offering visa-free access and 47 providing eVisa or visa-on-arrival facilities. Only 18 nations require prior visa arrangements, further emphasising the global mobility UAE citizens enjoy.
Hungary becomes the second European country in recent months to grant UAE citizens access to e-gates, following Italy’s initiative in October 2024. Italian airports allowed Emiratis to use automatic border control gates for both arrivals and departures, reflecting a growing trend of European countries strengthening travel ties with the UAE.
The introduction of e-gates for UAE nationals not only simplifies travel but also bolsters opportunities for cooperation in sectors like tourism and trade.
